Ship propulsion shaft with integrated generator, Fuel Savings & Compliance for Modern Vessels
A Shaft Generator is a mechanical device that are integrated into a ship’s propulsion system to convert mechanical energy into electrical energy.
It is connected to the main shaft of a ship and uses the redundant power of the main engine. It drives the rotation of the generator rotor through the rotation of the main shaft, thereby generating electrical energy.
Shaft generators are firstly introduced to reduce the reliance on auxiliary generators and optimize energy consumption.
Due to that the AE fuel consumption rate is higher than that of the ME, fuel saving and emission reduction can be achieved, and also improving EEDI.
The additional energy generated in the main engine is taken off by the shaft generator to produce electricity as an alternative to the auxiliary generator.
PTO system is incorporated with different kinds of frequency control system which makes sure ofproducing power with constant frequency.
* PTO mode can improve ship EEDI figures.
PTI mode provides propulsion power parallel to the main engine to the shaft to enlarge the propulsion power and the ship’s speed.
PTH mode can be used as an emergency propulsion drive to propel the ship to the nearest shore in case of a malfunction of the main engine.
For shore connection with 50 Hz or 60 Hz the frequency converter of the shaft generator system canbe used to adapt the shore frequency to the ship’s mains frequency.
For that purpose the connection between shaft generator and converter is switched off and the converter is supplied from the shore. In this mode, the ship is flexible for shore connection worldwide.
